A New Hope SHS

"Cashew" is a stunning 9 year old bay half-Arabian. For the Arabian aficionados, he is a grandson of Gazal Al Shaqab.

It's fairly rare to come across a horse who suffered true abuse - many times, neglect, fear, and lack of handling are mistaken for abusive treatment - but in Cashew's case, there was true evil somewhere in his early days that left lasting marks, physically and emotionally.

In training, he now enjoys human interaction with a quiet companion, executes trail obstacles on the ground with ease, and plays with the hose during bath time. Under saddle, he remained unpredictably explosive regardless of saddle or circumstances, and an extensive veterinary exam revealed the cause - an old, healed broken rib up high where the saddle sits, which means that he will never be able to be comfortably ridden. He also shows early signs of possible DSLD that we will monitor but should not be of major concern since he's a pasture puff.

He’s not a Standardbred but he’s bay ;) …and so, we stepped forward to offer him the protection of our safety net.

Cashew joins our sanctuary herd with care partially sponsored by his foster. We are seeking additional sponsors to assist with covering his needs, including his annual vetting ($225), farrier care ($50/trim), and monthly feed and hay costs (approx $120/month).
